Your role with us
As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Salem Health, you are a vital part of our care team, delivering compassionate, hands-on support during some of the most vulnerable moments in a patient's life. You'll assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and collaborate closely with nurses and providers to ensure safe, personalized care. Your empathy, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help create a healing environment and build meaningful connections with patients and families.
The 30-bed neuro trauma care unit (NTCU) serves patients with a wide variety of brain or nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, meningitis, encephalitis, strokes and spinal injuries. In this unit, staff train in the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), swallow screen and spine immobilization. The NTCU is a proud recipient of the Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center (PSC) Certification and Joint Commission Spine Center of Excellence Certification and works very closely with our Stroke Navigator.

What you'll do
  • Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility
  • Monitor and record vital signs, reporting changes to the nursing team
  • Support nurses and healthcare staff in delivering personalized, high-quality care
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients and families
  • Provide emotional support and compassionate care during vulnerable moments
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, and team members
  • Help ensure patient dignity, comfort, and safety at all times
Background/experience
  • Currently certified in the State of Oregon to practice as a CNA.
  • Have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider card.
  • Experience in an acute setting is preferred.
  • Well-developed computer skills and ability to lean additional programs with minimal training.
  • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with physicians, nurses and other hospital employees.
