The Regional Director oversees the operational, financial, and business performance of a designated region including the clinical and anatomical laboratories according to the goals and objectives of the health system. He/she is responsible for development and administration of the regional budget, development & execution of strategic initiatives, and implementation of programs to ensure attainment of a business plan for growth and profitability. He/she provides direction and oversight of various laboratory departments and managers. He/she maintains good inter-departmental, health system administration, and physician relationships in a highly visible role. This position reports to the System Vice President of Lab Operations.
- Plans, organizes, and directs the operations and business development activities for laboratory departments and services in a designated region.
- Creates and monitors laboratory budgets, develops, and implements initiatives to ensure compliance with established financial objectives.
- Reviews, recommends, approves and monitors plans for operational workflow; budget compliance, customer/client services, purchased services, and labor management.
- Reviews individual lab facility and regional performance against operating plans and standards. Creates and provides corporate management with business reports - guides and assists with the development of operational changes and corrective actions.
- Prepares, recommends, and guides implementation of department / regional service goals and objectives - operational, business, financial.
- Reviews and approves expenses, cost estimates, manpower and facilities requirements, including capital needs.
- Collaborates with external organizations and lab partners, vendors, system hospitals, medical groups, and other entities to achieve health system and laboratory objectives and responsibilities.
- Creates, reviews and manages major projects involving functional changes at individual/regional lab network, capital expenditures, facilities, new technology, services, processes, or practices to advance the health system mission and vision.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the Company.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Required:
- Completion of accredited Bachelor's degree program in a chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science.
- Prefer MS/MBA/MHA in healthcare management, business management or a closely related field with experience in laboratory operations.
- 5+ years of progressive managerial experience in a large healthcare organization with a solid track record and experience in clinical and anatomic pathology operations (federated and integrated), fiscal management, and strategy.
- Comprehensive experience in laboratory operations in a system environment, Quality Management Programs (QMP's), and Outreach/In-reach laboratory services.
- Comprehension of CLIA regulations regarding, proficiency testing, quality assurance and quality control.
- Knowledgeable in all applicable state and federal laws relating to but not limited to; healthcare & laboratory operations & standards; reimbursement regulations; employment laws and any other area impacting the operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of patient care issues as they relate to laboratory services and operations in an integrated healthcare delivery environment.
- Ability to comprehend and analyze laboratory financial reports; ability to create and interpret complex statistical and operational reports; create and execute strategic plans to achieve organizational objectives.
- Skilled in the creation and management of departmental budgets and financial forecasts including cost, revenue, capital expense planning.
- Ability to direct, advise, and motivate various layers of divisional personnel involving issues impacting the operations and the financial performance of the designated region.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to interact effectively with enterprise executives including Health System Executives, Pathologists, Dept. Managers and Supervisors, Laboratory Personnel, Referring Physicians, Business Development & Corporate support staff, as well as Vendors and Other Health System Partners and Stakeholders.
