Position Summary: This position is with the Grid Edge Innovations team, who works mainly with the Demand Response line of business as well as Dynamic Rates. This position is responsible for taking new concepts through our innovation framework to scale the right customer solutions quickly. Working independently and in a cross functional team environment you will transform initial concepts into viable solutions that will delight customers and contribute to Duke Energy's strategic objectives. The Solutions Development's charge is to cultivate, develop and launch a portfolio of innovative solutions that customers value that are aligned to achieve Duke Energy's strategic objectives. The goals of Solutions Development are to:
Cultivate a robust innovation portfolio Develop viable solutions and their business plans to facilitate timely decision making Deliver scaled solutions to the business and/or operations
The Senior Solution Developer requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise. You are assigned the increasingly complex concepts to develop on schedule and on budget or complex concepts with aggressive schedules or limited budgets. The position takes a broad perspective to solving complex operational problems and finds innovative solutions. You work independently and are successful with minimal guidance from management. You act as a mentor for less experienced colleagues with no impact to your assigned projects. The Senior Solution Developer position represents a level at which your career may stabilize for many years. Key Responsibilities:
Lead a cross functional team through the innovation management process to identify, develop, design, test, refine and finalize new concept's business plan, business model and/or business case to facilitate timely decision making. Identify strategic issues, customer trends and opportunities. Research industry trends, competitors, emerging technologies, and customer-facing solutions. Assess and prioritize opportunities to ensure they are aligned with Duke Energy's strategic objectives. Lead a cross functional team to evaluate risks, assess program desirability, feasibility and viability, validate key business model assumptions, determine policies and / or operations/operating model required and the forecasting of resources. Deliver the required project management duties to ensure the scope of the new concept is delivered on time schedule and on budget. Collaborate to develop requirements & specifications, go to market plans, customer journey maps, process flows, regulatory filings, data requests, training materials, operational budget, and operational playbooks. Collaborate to evaluate and select technologies and/or processes required by the new concept(s). Recommend build-buy-partner options. Collaborate with Sourcing & Legal to secure contracts. Identify and negotiate partnerships including financial arrangements, customer sharing, and intellectual property rights. Forecast the new concept's customer participation, financial model and/or contribution & contribution Duke Energy's objectives. Present to various levels of the organization to educate, secure support, gain necessary funding and approval to proceed. Deliver the implementation plans, communication plans, change management and transition management to ensure a successful acceptance and transition to the business and/or operations as the new solution scales. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Industrial Design, Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, or other related degree. In addition to required degree, 7 plus years related work experience. In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND 7 plus year(s) related work experience listed above, Associates AND 9 plus year(s) related work experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Certified SCRUM Product Owner and/or Project Management Professional and/or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) Demonstrated innovation management experience (Ideation through to scaling a new solutions). Project Management Creative problem Solving Stakeholder Alignment Process Discipline Expert level in Microsoft Excel Broad utility knowledge including broad technology experience and experience leveraging technology

Experience contributing to the preparation of regulatory filings including supporting data requests. Working knowledge of Duke Energy Code of Conduct, affiliate rules, as well as the applicable laws and regulations. Broad utility knowledge including broad technology experience and experience leveraging technology includes experience with: Grid related technologies (primarily distribution) Renewables including battery storage and other resiliency technologies Electric vehicle charging infrastructure Attachments to the grid like Outdoor Lighting, cameras, and sensing technology Energy efficiency Demand Response Rates and rate design Customer facing programs and services Ability to build beneficial relationships and connections with outside organizations Working Conditions Experienced working successfully with a team based in multiple work locations. Includes the flexibility to travel up to 6 times per year or more if assigned work requires collaboration face to face.
