Job Summary

The Digital Media Manager leads WGCU's digital content and technology strategies with a focus on delivering a high-quality user experience, expanding audience reach, and enhancing engagement. This role collaborates across the department to implement the vision for digital products, shapes effective digital strategies, and ensures optimal accessibility. The Digital Media Manager also oversees support staff to ensure the successful execution of area goals.

WGCU is Southwest Florida's source for PBS and NPR. A member-supported service of Florida Gulf Coast University, WGCU provides educational programming that inspires, informs and engages our community. Serving all or part of 12 counties in south and Southwest Florida, with five distinct digital TV channels, two FM radio channels, two HD radio channels, and multiple websites, WGCU delivers national and international programming, and develops, produces and delivers relevant, informative and educational local programs to the region.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Drives the vision and execution of all WGCU digital products, including product elements and final products, to maximize digital efforts across platforms and achieve department goals.
  • Designs workflows and trains broadcast and news-oriented teams on best practices for digital content creation. Collaborates across department to develop digital strategies and plan digital products.
  • Oversees the implementation of digital technologies.
  • Manages assigned staff, establishes clear goals, evaluates goal achievement, and maintains high standards of performance.
  • Updates and maintains website content, formatting, and SEO to ensure all information is accurate and up to date.
  • Works closely with marketing team to utilize digital products according to department marketing strategy. Performs analysis using data collected across digital platforms and recommends solutions to improve performance.
  • Oversees digital content to ensure products remain current, relevant, and consistent with WGCU's quality standards and brands. Develops strategies to increase audience and web exposure using metrics to guide placement of digital resources.
  • Manages and assists underwriting, membership, and development teams to optimize advertising placements and campaigns across digital platforms.
  • Analyzes data to provide guidance and best practices to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manages ongoing issues toward resolution for all digital products; manages and prioritizes the bug list as well as new incremental feature additions for existing products.
  • Aligns priorities with other teams while identifying, building, and managing strategic partnerships within the department.
  • Studies end-user needs using a customer-first mindset, defines product features, and coordinates activities across teams to meet quality standards, project deadlines, and business objectives.
  • Utilizes a strong understanding of back-end and front-end programming languages and an ability to develop data pipelines to track, analyze, and improve digital products.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies and compares features to departments needs and objectives. Creates and leads implementation plans for the adoption as appropriate.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either seven years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience as a digital product manager, webmaster, or similar role.
  • Proficient with HTML/CSS and Content Management Systems such as WordPress.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in digital aspects and ecosystem of TV, Radio, News, Audio, Video, Streaming, OTT, podcasts, and advertising.
  • Experience in public media and associated content management systems.
  • Digital media production experience.
  • Experience with Google analytics, DoubleClick, and Google Ad Manager, Triton or equivalent streaming CMS.
  • Proficient with Apple iOS and Google Android.
  • Experience with mobile application development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of budget control principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of UX/UI design.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and technical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to manage complex projects.
