Organizational Unit Overview |
The Division of University Advancement serves as the engagement and fundraising division of East Carolina University's academic areas, working to generate financial and other forms of support that enhance the university's long- and short-term growth and welfare. Under the oversight of the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the division strategically identifies, engages, cultivates, and stewards alumni, individuals, corporations and foundations to support ECU's mission. University Advancement is comprised of Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Major Giving, Planned Giving and Strategic Advancement Operations with the Vice Chancellor's office overseeing these units and their initiatives. Additionally, the division provides oversight and support for the
ECU Foundation and the
ECU Health Foundation (health sciences) associated foundations. |
Job Duties |
The Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will conduct significant discovery work to identify corporations and foundations capable of making significant investments in East Carolina University. Information gathered during the discovery process will be updated in the
ECU Advancement database and shared appropriately with the Corporate and Foundation Relations team and
ECU Faculty. This position will assist the Senior Director and Senior Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations with proposal development, donor engagement, marketing, and metrics reporting.
Prospect Research 50%
The Assistant Director will play a hands-on role in identifying prospective corporate and foundation donors through targeted research, reviewing published funder guidelines, and outreaching to prospective corporate and foundation donors on behalf of
ECU faculty seeking external funding support. The position will broadly disseminate information on corporate and foundation funding opportunities to
ECU faculty using the appropriate
ECU communication channels. The Assistant Director will review and qualify existing corporate and foundation funders in the University Advancement
CRM for potential engagement. The Assistant Director will serve as the initial point of contact for faculty seeking help identifying potential corporate and foundation funding opportunities that are a fit for their research or community engagement work.
Database Management/Proposal Development - 35%
The Assistant Director will be responsible to maintaining and updating information on corporate and foundation funders in the University Advancement
CRM; pulling reports from the
CRM for the Senior Director; compiling supporting documentation to comply with proposal submission requirements and deadlines; and maintaining an accurate grants calendar that includes submission and reporting deadlines; and reviewing monthly grant reports to identify all corporate and foundation awards made to
ECU colleges and units. The Assistant Director will assist the Corporate and Foundation Relations team and individual faculty in reviewing and editing proposals, letters, emails, and briefings related to seeking support from corporate and foundation funders. The position will monitor the
CFR inbound email and process inquiries appropriately. The Assistant Director will provide front-line and college-based gift officers with supporting documentation for proposal submission to corporate and foundation funders.
Multi-Divisional/Foundation Teamwork-15%
The Assistant Director works collaboratively across the Division of University Advancement and the Office of Research Administration to identify and disseminate non-federal/non-state recruiting, research, and philanthropic partnership opportunities that align with East Carolina University's Strategic Priorities. The annual dollars raised by corporate and foundation entities will aid towards the
UNC System Performance Metrics Goal related to increased research revenue and development sponsored program awards. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
- A bachelor's degree in appropriate field.
- Minimum of three years' work experience in either corporate and foundation fundraising or the communications field (corporate/news media/public relations) at a comparably complex organization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with others at all levels of an organization.

- Master's degree
- Corporate and foundation experience, particularly within a public college or university.
- Corporate communications experience with responsibility for corporate giving programs.
- Experience in healthcare communications or non-profit management.
- Ability to develop well-crafted, clear and concise, and professional correspondence; attention to detail is essential.
- Strong computer and database literacy.
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals, with a high level of accountability.
- Experience working with Salesforce.
