Salary Range Starting at: $14.50/per hour

Job Objective:

The Administrative Assistant provides support to the Corps Officers, employees, volunteers, and clients by managing a variety of tasks to make sure all interactions between the organization and others are positive and productive to ensure the mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:



  • Schedule appointments for social service programs.
  • Produce and distribute correspondence, memos, letters, faxes, and forms.
  • Assist in recording financial data
  • Organize and schedule meetings and appointments as directed.
  • Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports.
  • Develop and maintain office filing system.
  • Operate a variety of office machines/programs.


  • Recordkeeping and reports


    • Prepare, update, and maintain records and files. This may include developing invoices and claims.


  • Assist with volunteer development as requested
  • Oversee the National Able Workers


  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. An associate degree is preferred.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Candidates with 2 or more years' experience as an administrative assistant will be given greater consideration

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete SIMS data entry and/or completion of data entry procedures within 60 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems


  • Provide guidance and promote the spiritual dimension of Salvation Army programs, emphasizing the importance of Christian influence and evangelism in all Salvation Army ministries, including delivery of social services in contemporary settings.


Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking
  • May require standing for extended periods


Travel: Local travel only.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office and community center environment; May require some weekend and evening work.
