Ride Operator Engineer

Milwaukee County Zoo

Hourly Pay Range: $22.48 - $23.81

Job Summary: The Ride Operator Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of all zoo rides to ensure optimal safety and functionality. This role involves performing routine preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and completing necessary repairs. Work includes servicing a variety of systems such as electric and diesel engines, hydraulics, air compressors, steel rails, cables, and other mechanical ride components. Accurate documentation of inspections and maintenance activities is essential.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Operate miniature diesel locomotives, carousel, skyglide, ropes course, zip-line, and work with seasonal employees.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and perform necessary repairs on all zoo rides to ensure safe and efficient operation. Carry out routine ride inspections and maintain accurate documentation of completed work. Responsibilities include servicing mechanical components, electric and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air compressors, steel rails, steel cables, and rolling stock parts.
  • Interact with customers at all rides and provide information about the Milwaukee County Zoo. Respond to questions, inquiries about service, and handle complaint requests.
  • Perform document inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs and adjustments for all rides, equipment, and rolling stock.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least two (2) years of Ride Operation, Train Operation, or Diesel Mechanical Services experience.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Basic knowledge of QR Codes.
  • Able to lift/carry up to 50lbs and push/pull up to 100lbs.
  • Willing and able to have frequent on-call availability, with the possibility of irregular, unpredictable, or long hours.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
