Adjunct Lecturer - Governors School of Tourism - College of Business and Economics

The Governor's School of Tourism (GST) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Faculty Chaperones to help lead and support high school students participating in an immersive, 10-day summer experience exploring tourism, hospitality, and West Virginia's cultural and natural assets.
Chaperones will play a key role in fostering a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment throughout the program. This includes supervising students during travel, activities, and overnight stays; facilitating daily check-ins and reflections; and working collaboratively with fellow staff and program coordinators.

Responsibilities:



  • Supervise students during all scheduled program activities and overnight accommodations.
  • Provide mentorship and support to assigned student groups.
  • Ensure student compliance with program expectations, safety protocols, and behavioral standards.
  • Attend all required pre-program training and orientation sessions starting June 9.
  • Assist with program logistics including attendance tracking, transportation coordination, and emergency preparedness.
  • Lead or co-lead small group discussions and support enrichment programming as assigned.
  • Maintain regular communication with program coordinators and fellow chaperones to ensure program success.


Dates of Program: June 20-29, 2025

Pre-Trip Training: Starting June 9, 2025

Location: Various sites across West Virginia

Compensation: Stipend provided; travel, lodging, and meals covered during the program.

Qualifications

These positions at minimum require an associate degree in youth development, education, hospitality, humanities, or a related field, as well as a minimum of six (6) months of experience working with high school students in an academic or youth development setting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to dynamic environments.
