Job Summary
The Denver Health Division of Neurosurgery is recruiting for a PRN/Intermittent APP (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our Inpatient Neurosurgery team on an intermittent/as needed basis. This position will assist with coverage gaps within our existing neurosurgery group. Under supervision of neurosurgery APPs provide care to neurosurgery patients. Functions as an advanced practice provider to support the neurosurgery service. Performs and assists with procedures as needed. Teaches medical, physician assistant and nursing students.
Essential Functions:
- Patient Evaluation: Conduct patient evaluations, obtain medical histories and perform physical exams. Complete required chart documentation. (45%)
- Perform procedures including but not limited EVDs and bolt removal. Assist the neurosurgeon during surgical procedures. Monitor patients in the post-op period. (35%)
- Teaches medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nursing students who are in a neurosurgery rotation. (20%)
Education:
- Master's Degree for physician assistant and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Required or
- Masters of Advanced Practice Nursing Required.
Work Experience:
- 1-3 years related clinical experience preferred.
Licenses:
- PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required or NP state medical board and
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical principles and procedures.
- Skill in performing physical exams, formulation assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
- Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
- Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
- Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to competently perform Neurology specific procedures.
- Ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and continuing education.
- Accountability for role in department's productivity, efficiency and financial viability.
- Computer skills required

Salary $128,100.00 - $144,800.00 / yr (Pay range listed is for 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE). See Work Type for actual FTE)
