What You Will Do:
GFT is seeking a Senior Field Health & Safety Manager to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY. This role requires regular attendance in New York, NY. We oversee every construction phase to help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. What you'll be challenged to do: Take the lead in shaping safe, compliant, and efficient construction environments. In this role, you'll serve as a key Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) contact for major infrastructure projects, ensuring regulations are met and risks are addressed. You'll collaborate with internal teams and clients to build and implement safety programs, streamline processes, and support training efforts. Your work will guide teams, improve outcomes, and support a consistent safety culture across every project. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Act as an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) point of contact for Gannett Fleming NYCDEP projects and other client project work.
- Check compliance with EH&S regulations and standards throughout the construction process.
- Conduct assessments to identify health and safety needs and potential risks associated with project activities. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of Gannett Fleming health and safety programs and policies tailored to project-specific requirements and corporate standards.
- Collaborate in the creation of systems, procedures, and tools necessary to effectively implement corporate health and safety programs and policies.
- Streamline processes to enhance safety performance.
- Work closely with the Corporate EH&S Department to ensure alignment with company-wide health and safety initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative relationship with the Construction Services EH&S Organization to share best practices, coordinate efforts, and maintain a consistent approach to health and safety across projects.
- Provide EH&S leadership to internal and external clients and assist in addressing EH&S issues relating to business needs.
- Communicate effectively with project teams to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor compliance with relevant EH&S regulations, standards, and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and submit reports as needed to clients and regulatory agencies.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of EH&S training programs.
- Participate in EH&S audits and assessments.
- Develop and effectively present Health & Safety training material.
- Site-specific safety plan development and technical review.
- Manage the incident evaluation process, providing guidance to managers and ensuring completion of resulting preventative measures.
Education | Experience:
What you'll bring to our firm:
- Bachelor's Degree in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline and
- 5 years of relevant construction environmental, health & safety field experience; or a minimum 10 years of direct experience in construction environmental, health and safety in lieu of a degree.
- Professional Certifications/Designations such as CSP or CIH considered an asset
- Lead and Asbestos Certifications, Scaffolding Certifications preferred
- NYC-DOB 40 Hour Site Safety Manager Trained
- Hazmat - 30 hour preferred
- Experience with Health & Safety Management systems and deployment of Health & Safety programs to a complex organization, with multiple business operations at multiple project sites.
- Experience conducting comprehensive safety audits.
- In-depth knowledge with and experience applying US Federal, State and NYC health & safety regulations/standards.
- Ability to build trust and strong personal relationships through proven consistency and leadership.
- Strong and effective communication both written and verbal.
- Capable of meeting deadlines and making decisions independently while being a Team player and working within the framework of Gannett Fleming corporate processes and policies.
- Member of a recognized health and safety professional organization.
- Flexibility to travel up to 50% of the time
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $138,000 - $152,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Featured Benefits:
