GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs detailed financial analysis and review of all general accounting processes as assigned to guarantee accurate and timely presentation of all financial information and meets month-end and year-end closing schedules. Serves as a contact for management for analysis of financial information and other customer support. Provides integral assistance to auditors as it relates to areas of expertise.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  • Performs financial analysis of accounting information to ensure accurate and timely processing per departmental and regulatory standards.
  • Reviews and verifies organizational contracts and tracks contract compliance.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including detailed review and analysis for major balance sheet and income statement accounts for all entities within Merrick Medical Center (MMC).
  • Assesses user needs and makes necessary improvements as they relate to general accounting functions within accepted standards.
  • Understands, utilizes, and educates others regarding accepted accounting theory and practice to prepare and interpret a broad range of financial reports used by internal managers and the Board of Trustees (BOT).
  • Prepares consolidated MMC financial statements for use by Senior management and BOT.
  • Coordinates year-end audits with public accounting firm to ensure limited adjustments.
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements such as taxes, payroll, and fiduciary compliance as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with and minimizes tax liability through sound and informed application of federal, state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Assists with the preparation of financial plans, forecasts and modeling, and annual budgets for MMC.
  • Serves as system administrator for all software-based issues related to the department.
  • Advances working knowledge by participating in continuing education in services, readingperiodicals/ literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities; maintains working knowledgeof new accounting standards and practices based on industry literature and serves as primary resource for this information for the department.
  • Maintains subsidiary ledger detail as requested and verifies reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field of study required. Master's degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred. Minimum of three (3) years accounting experience required. Additional experience in detailed accounting analysis and knowledge of healthcare regulations desired.
