Job Summary

The Department of OB-GYN at Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC) is recruiting a skilled GYN surgeon with at least 5 years of experience and robust surgical skills through practice and/or fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) to join our team. The position offers full-scope Gynecology practice in a multidisciplinary collaborative team with emphasis on growing the departmental expertise in complex laparoscopic, robotic and hysteroscopic surgery, active participation in resident and student education, and opportunities for leadership within the Gynecology division. Clinical responsibilities include acting as the attending physician or as an independent provider covering general gynecology clinic, surgery, inpatient services, consults, and urgent/emergent procedures. Participation in obstetric care and Labor and Delivery coverage are optional. The position offers leadership opportunities and professional development related to resident education, faculty surgical mentorships, establishment of specialty care clinics such as chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis, and expansion of gynecology services. About the OB/GYN department at Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC)

DHMC is a safety net teaching hospital located in the heart of Denver. It is 500 bed hospital with Trauma 1 level designation, Bariatric Center of Excellence, Orthopedic Center of Excellence, and level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Recently, DHMC acquired 2 Da Vinci Robotic surgical systems and completed the renovation of a hybrid operating room. The organization has inpatient and outpatient surgical center. The department of OB/GYN provides full scope obstetric and gynecologic care through a collaborative integrated service model working with OB/GYN physicians, subspecialists, certified nurse midwives, and Family Medicine physicians. We deliver over 4,000 patients per year, which is nearly a half of all births in the city of Denver. The GYN service provides comprehensive care performing approximately 1,300 inpatient and outpatient surgeries per year and increasing ED consults.

Schedule and clinical responsibilities

A full-time physician will cover general gynecology clinic, OR, inpatient services, consults, and urgent/emergent procedures Monday through Friday. A representative schedule may include inpatient gynecology service attending coverage 2 times per week (7 am - 5 pm), OR block 2 - 3 half days per month, OR mentorship for junior faculty 1 day per week, gynecology clinic as independent provider or as the attending physician 2 - 3 half days per week. There is considerable flexibility in scheduling.

Labor and Delivery coverage is available but not mandatory. Nights and weekend coverage is not mandatory. The physician should enjoy working directly with patients, resident physicians, and other learners. This physician should be in support of the hospital and department's mission to provide high quality evidence-based patient care.

Academic affiliation and medical education

DHMC serves as one of the three clinical sites for the highly competitive University of Colorado OB/GYN residency program which trains 9 residents per year. In addition, DHMC is the clinical site for many medical programs including the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, emergency medical services, and others. DHMC is formally affiliated with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine where all faculty have full-time academic appointments. In addition to resident and medical student training, our department has just started a new OB/GYN hospitalist fellowship with our first fellow starting in the summer of 2025.

Qualifications

MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school. Expertise in gynecologic surgery, preferably with training in MIGS. Applicants must have successfully completed an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency training program. Board Certified or Board Eligible (cert required within 3 years) by American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology; have acknowledged excellence in the field; are eligible for licensure in the state of Colorado and be eligible for privileges at Denver Health Medical Center.

  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports, or examination results. (25%)
  • Treat diseases of female organs. (25%)
  • Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods. (25%)
  • Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

  • Perform cesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserv patients' health and deliver babies safely.
    (10%)
  • Participate in or support education and research (5%)

Education:

  • Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medical school Required

Licenses:

  • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
  • Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
  • Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
  • Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
