About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a new Staff-level Environmental Planner. We offer remote, hybrid, and in-office work options. As a valuable member of the team, you will support our growing group of scientists and partner directly with senior Environmental Professionals (EPs) to prepare Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESAs) reports in support of renewable energy projects nationwide. Responsibilities will include collecting data, conducting landowner interviews, providing guidance to field staff, preparing report figures, and writing ASTM-standard Phase I ESAs. Fieldwork is limited and may include site assessments and data collection for local sites.

This position is an hourly, full-time, benefits eligible position and can be hired at the following levels:

  • Assistant Staff Environmental Planner - Typically with at least 1 year of relevant experience and expertise.
  • Staff Environmental Planner - Typically with at least 2 years of relevant experience and expertise.

What you will accomplish

  • Assist with preparing ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments under the guidance of a senior EP.
  • Collaborate with SWCA's biologists, cultural resources teams, NEPA planners, and other specialists.
  • Conduct fieldwork for local projects.
  • Perform assignments under the guidance of an Environmental Professional or Project Manager.
  • Assist with field data QA/QC.
  • Assist with proposals, budgets, and project planning, and project implementation.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • A bachelor's degree in an environmental related field
  • At least one year of experience authoring ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Experience in environmental consulting or a related field
  • Proficient in MS Office products
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record and your own transportation
  • Ability to be flexible, travel and work outside in most weather conditions
  • Ability to interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of relevant environmental industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience writing and/leading ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time while meeting deadlines

In a Phoenix based position, an employee in the position of Assistant Staff Environmental Planner can expect an hourly pay rate of $22.26/hour to $28.09/hour; Staff Environmental Planner -- $24.91/hour to $31.80/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
