What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)? The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. About the Program: The eligible candidate will be hired as a full-time employee and compensated with a training wage while in attendance at EMT Academy, sponsored by AMR. The academy is a rigorous ten-week program which qualifies the employee to take the National Registry of EMT exam. Upon successful completion of the National Registry EMT exam, the employee can then apply for a Nevada State EMT Basic Certification. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees, and uniforms will be paid by AMR.
