POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Altoona is in search of a student-focused, team-oriented Recreation and Involvement Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have experience in building community and event planning with/for college students.

The Recreation and Involvement Coordinator will be a part of the Athletics team at Penn State Altoona and will collaborate heavily with Student Leadership and Involvement. The design, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of the holistic development of students will be done collaboratively with a student development and retention mindset. The coordinator will develop initiatives and events that foster engagement and build a sense of community for all students. This position will be a lead for recreation-based student programming.

The Recreation and Involvement Coordinator responsibilities include:

  • Student Programming: Developing, implementing, and monitoring programs, initiatives, and events that foster belonging and community building for students
  • Monthly Intramural program planning
  • Monthly trips to support and engage students as connected to recreation and athletics
  • Weekly recreational opportunities, games, and competitions
  • Daily "open gym" experiences for students

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Co-advise the Campus Activities Board with Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Involvement
  • Support operational and program management of Adler Athletic Complex
  • Support advising and operational needs of the Club Sports program
  • Collaborate and support summer youth sports camps
  • Collaborate on planning of key civic engagement initiatives like Voluntoona
  • Participate, support, and offer programming to key campus and University initiatives like Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Penn State Day, Accepted Student Program, Spring Week, etc.

Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • The ability to maintain appropriate interpersonal boundaries with students
  • Project management and budgeting experience
  • Ability to manage difficult and complex situations with emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Willingness to learn about developing student programs and assessment, and principles/practices of student development theory
  • Ability to inspire and nurture a climate of inclusiveness, collegiality, fun, wellness, and shared responsibility

This is an in-person position and work hours may vary based on student programs, meetings, and events; the schedule during the fall and spring semesters will follow a Tuesday -Saturdaypattern, hours typically Weekday 2:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m., Weekends 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m, summer hours will be determined with supervisor, primarily based on the needs of youth sports camps.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $42,100.00 - $61,000.00.
