The Cyber Defense Engineer II will be a technical expert responsible for providing advanced support and maintaining COCC's managed cybersecurity services, encompassing a wide range of systems and technologies. This Engineer will also play a pivotal role in automating manual processes, analyzing current platforms, researching and presenting new platforms, mentoring junior team members, and collaborating closely with stakeholders across the organization

What you'll do...



  • Act as the technical expert responsible for providing advanced support and maintaining COCC's managed cybersecurity services such as web hosting, remote access, Internet access, firewalls, multi-factor authentication, SSL certificates, DNS, and email security
  • Demonstrate strong subject matter expertise in internal platforms, actively contribute to process improvement initiatives, and take ownership of infrastructure management, including upgrades and patches
  • Focus on driving operational efficiency and scalability by leveraging APIs and scripting to automate routine tasks and streamline processes
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of existing platforms, play a pivotal role in enhancing current solutions, participate in building new offerings, serve as a mentor to junior team members, and collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization


What you'll bring...

Education/Certification /Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline preferred
  • Advanced security certification (GCED, CISSP, etc.) required
  • Five (5) or more years' experience supporting security-oriented network service


Communication Skills



  • Excellent ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information and articulate it in detail to various stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with staff, management, and cross-functional teams, both verbally and in written form
  • Proficient in managing and distributing team workload among peers, ensuring efficient collaboration and timely completion of tasks
  • Demonstrated capability to train and mentor junior engineers, as well as analysts on the team, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth
  • Ability to share and coordinate with colleagues collaboratively in both business and technical roles across the company
  • Strong understanding of our relationships with internal customers and clients, and how we provide cybersecurity services to them
  • Strong sense of service stewardship to ensure that we deliver leading, reliable services


Technical Skills



  • In-depth understanding of Internet protocols, including TCP/IP, SMTP, DNS, and HTTP(S), etc.
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining enterprise-class security platforms such as firewalls, proxies, DLP (Data Loss Prevention), multi-factor authentication, and email security.
  • Skilled in both Linux and Windows environments, leveraging their respective strengths for cybersecurity operations and infrastructure management.
  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) to support automation, API integrations, and operational efficiencies.
  • Experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting common web server and database services. (IIS/Apache2/MySQL experience a plus)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing services like AWS, Azure, etc., is an advantage for deploying and securing cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Experience with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
  • Comfortable working with APIs and integration workflows to enhance processes, improve efficiency, and reduce manual effort in day-to-day operations


The salary range for this role is $107,100-$137,700/annually
