JOB SUMMARY: As a team leader, you will guide individuals toward achieving company goals and promoting a positive team culture. You will cultivate an atmosphere of collaboration and communication while equipping team members with the necessary tools for success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
- Maintains and reinforces Darling and EnviroFlight safety initiatives, as well as DOT/OSHA at all times.
- Ensures that employees have the required safety training and are consistently working in a safe manner; develops and implements safety programs to reduce accidents and injuries.
- Develops plans for the efficient use of materials, machines, and employees to ensure that production goals are met by managing and participating in:
- Feeding and harvesting larvae
- Handling and transferring live or dead larvae and flies and related frass
- Collecting and handling BSF eggs and adult flies
- Mixing feed manually and using mechanized equipment
- Carrying and lifting production equipment and feed buckets
- Cleaning and maintaining production equipment and facilities, including washing and sanitizing equipment and other janitorial duties, as required
- Operating production equipment and machinery
- Records and collects data using written and computerized systems.
- Keeps all staff members up to date on SOPs and any procedural changes.
- Coordinates with managers and direct reports to maintain production and quality control standards.
- Maintains processes, procedures, and programs to improve the safety, productivity, and profitability of the operation.
- Coordinates with managers to address organizational needs, equipment utilization, and maintenance.
- Provides leadership, communication, and coaching to employees; cultivates a motivated employee environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence, and business ownership.
- Ensures that operational supplies are on hand and available at all times.
- Identifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvement.
LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the day-to-day direction of area employees.
- Carries out team lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one-year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certificates, licenses, and registrations required: Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and auto insurance as required by the State of Kentucky.
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Minimum of 1 year with the company
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the industry best practices and trends for team management.
- No active disciplinary actions within the last year
- No attendance issues (1 point or less)
- Be certified via EnviroFlight assessment in the area that you wish to lead
- Required to take leadership/supervisor courses online within 3 months of becoming a lead.
- Must remain a lead for 6 months in order to keep promotional raise. No additional raises will be provided if employee steps into another lead role in other areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Animal or environmental sciences-focused degree
- Demonstrated record of successful supervisory activities in a labor-intensive workspace
- Demonstrative record of safety, productivity, work ethics, and innovation
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work independently, in areas requiring both manual labor and administrative record-keeping
- Ability to maintain accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability in record-keeping with a demonstrated understanding of required documentation, competence in basic math skills, and handwriting technique
- Ability to consistently and legibly enter data into manual recordkeeping documents and/or into computerized production systems and software
- Respect for diversity and an ability to work with diverse teammates, customers, individuals, and organizations
- Demonstrated willingness to learn
- Experience working with livestock or in a farm environment is desirable
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding the company and its proprietary processes and information; a Confidentiality Agreement is required
YOUR TASKS:
- Set clear objectives, define roles and responsibilities, and ensure each team member aligns with the team's vision
- Communicate expectations, goals, and feedback to the group regularly and resolve any concerns or issues actively
- Identify and address conflicts early, facilitating discussions and finding satisfactory solutions for all parties involved
- Recognize and reward good performance, provide feedback, and encourage professional development
- Support team members' professional development by providing opportunities for training and growth to ensure team members are prepared for certifications when eligible
- Ensure team compliance with company policies and procedures
- Support and guide team members to ensure they meet their individual targets and goals
- Generate reports on team performance and provide regular updates to management
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequently required to stand and walk
- Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds
- Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
- Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather)
- Occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts
- Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
- Allergens may be present in insect rearing facilities, most relevant for individuals with shellfish allergies
- Additional remarks regarding work environment: We are a growing agribusiness. All employees must be willing and able to work indoors and outdoors around the insects used in production, and be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, potentially unpleasant odors, and mechanical equipment used for production. Hard hats, safety shoes, rubber or latex gloves, and other protective equipment must be worn as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Job functions will be carried out in an office and/or plant environment. Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
