BGS is seeking a Senior Nuclear Safety Analyst-Engineer to join our science, technology, and engineering team. The candidate selected would join an experienced team providing nuclear safety support. The nuclear safety support includes calculations with applicable software and development and review of safety basis documents, such as Documented Safety Analyses (DSAs) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), for U.S. Department of Energy and commercial nuclear sector clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare rule compliant DSAs and TSRs in accordance with DOE-STD-3009 and 10 CFR 830.
  • Perform complex and in-depth technical analysis such as radiological and chemical hazard identification, screening, and evaluation.
  • Perform and/or review atmospheric dispersion modeling and dose consequence analysis consistent with quality assurance requirements.
  • Collaborate with nuclear facility operation which includes reviews of procedures and support DSA and TSR implementation.
  • Perform and/or review analyses for criticality safety, radiation protection and shielding.
  • Development and/or review of nuclear safety documentation consistent with criteria, requirements, and standards for DOE and commercial applications.
  • Perform work consistent with quality assurance procedures and processes for designated tasks, including required verification and validation of applied software.

Requirements:

This is a multi-level posting and the selected candidate will enter at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 10-years relevant experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience performing nuclear safety analysis in a DOE or commercial environment.
  • Experience conducting facility and process hazard analysis, safety analysis and reporting, licensing, and risk assessment, radiological dose assessments, chemical hazards analysis, environmental monitoring and permitting, radionuclide transport modeling, and radiation work planning.
  • Successful drug screen.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain a US Department of Energy (DOE) Clearance (not required to start)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in performing calculations using DOE-approved safety software, including
    • MELCOR Accident Consequence Code System (MACCS).
    • Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP).
    • SCALE Code Systems.

Location/Work Arrangement:

  • This position is remote with some travel/onsite requirements.

Starting compensation for this role is dependent on candidate experience and expertise commensurate with experience relative to the position and may vary based on candidate geographical location.
