Staff Accountant - Temp

The Staff Accountant is responsible for:

• Prepare month end journal entries and account reconciliations for various accounts including prepaids, accruals, fixed assets and cash. Review various accounts to ensure expenses are recorded in the appropriate periods and record entries as needed.
• Review various expense accounts to categorize spend and provide explanations of large variances on month-over-month or year-over-year basis.
• Perform Cash Disbursement Store audits on a monthly basis to ensure disbursements are recorded appropriately. Prepare findings for supervisor review.
• Assist with fixed asset closing including invoice and expense review to determine if charges should be capitalized based on GAAP and Company policy perspective.
• Prepare and review fixed asset additions for new stores, existing stores, remodels, expansions, special projects, warehouses, and offices.
• Analyze fixed assets for disposals.
• Assist with year-end audit requests.
• Assist with other accounting projects as needed.
• Promote the Trader Joe's Company culture by encouraging open communication, teamwork, food, fun, and wearing Hawaiian shirts.

The Staff Accountant has:

• Bachelor's or higher degree required with a concentration in accounting preferred.
• Prior monthly closing experience is highly desired but not required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Applications.
• The ability to dig into the details, research and reconcile accounts.
• Excellent written, verbal, communications, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all crew members and external providers to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
