POSITION SUMMARY:

Working as a member of the Major Gifts and Individual Giving team, the Development Officer will be responsible for engaging individual donors and prospects in the mission and work of BMC. He/She will contribute to the team's fundraising goals by building a pipeline of donors who have the capacity to make high five-figure and low-six-figure gifts, as well as qualifying new prospects through our grateful patient screening process This role will primary be working in a discovery portfolio and report to the Director of Major Gifts & Individual Giving

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit current and prospective donors through patient screening, networking, and in partnership with Development Research, to drive vital revenue for BMC. Actively prospect and engage for new friends and grateful patients of BMC around the hospital's top fundraising priorities.
  • Engage donors through personal/virtual visits, phone calls, and written correspondence. Manage a portfolio of about 250 prospects, and complete 75-100 prospect visits annually. Meet, and when possible, exceed set revenue targets. Other metrics to be discussed.
  • Retain and upgrade existing five-figure donors and leverage pool of sustaining donors for long-term, major gift pipeline development
  • Develop gift proposals, stewardship reports, engagement opportunities, and other written materials as necessary in partnership with team members in Development Communications.
  • Regularly collaborate with key clinical leaders and program directors to understand and support departmental and programmatic priorities, ensuring alignment with donor interests and facilitating meaningful donor engagement where appropriate. Provide necessary briefing and background information to these stakeholders when needed. Manage volunteers from BMC's Philanthropic Trust to further expand the Development Office's reach and identify and engage new individuals around BMC's philanthropic aims.
  • Submit timely contact reports, proposals, and other necessary documentation using NXT; have familiarity with fundraising CRMs
  • Partner with other development colleagues, such as the Planned Giving and Annual Fund team, on appropriate areas for collaboration to maximize revenue for the hospital
  • Participate in annual program planning, goal setting, and assessment.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience and familiarity with partnering with clinical and programmatic leadership strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):


  • Demonstrated success with individual solicitations and experience with portfolio management
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor proposals, stewardship reports and personalized outreach materials.
  • Proven track record in working within complex programs managing multiple demands, and balance evolving needs.
  • Proven ability to make decisions, work independently, and as a team player
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters
