Radiation Safety Officer/Manager

SUMMARY

The RSO (Radiation Safety Officer) is responsible for
developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the safety and
health of all employees, contractors, and visitors within the organization. The
RSO will also be responsible for managing the organization's radiation safety
program, as well as ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and
standards.

  • Manage the organization's radiation safety program, including the development and implementation of radiation safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with relevant authorities, including regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.
  • Provide radiation safety training and conduct radiation safety audits on a regular basis.
  • Maintain radiation safety records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Performs basic health physics functions which include sealed source leak tests, radioactivity wipe test, administration of radiation dosimeter program, survey meter calibrations, bioassays and environmental monitoring.
  • Interprets new and existing regulations, advises leadership on technical and regulatory issues regarding the strategic direction of the radiation safety program and applies strategic measures as appropriate.
  • Renew and apply for radioactive materials licenses and reciprocity agreements.
  • Drives cultural change within the organization and improves performance as it relates to safety and safety culture.
  • Consults with operational managers to ensure timely and effective resolution of safety concerns

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety or other technical discipline required.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working in Radiation Safety.
  • Certified Health Physicist preferred.
  • Self-sufficient; self-starter
  • Ability to work independently establish priorities and complete competing assignments within required timeframes
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a company vehicle
  • Experience dealing with all levels of employees, from entry-level employees to upper-level management
  • Must be multi-tasker and team player, able to work within a group, take direction from supervisors, and exhibit tenacious follow through with great attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
