PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Environmental Leader is a key member of the Plant's Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Team, providing guidance and coaching in the areas of environmental compliance and stewardship related to all plant operations.

The Environmental Leader is responsible for providing environmental leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of critical processes, programs, training, and procedures to achieve Plant and Company goals, and objectives. The successful candidate provides leadership and applies technical abilities to engage employees at all levels of the organization to sustain world-class environmental processes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Compliance of Government Regulations and Corporate Standards



  • Adhere to, and continuously improve upon, all plant, business unit and Enterprise environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permits.
  • Provide guidance, support, and change leadership for environmental / regulatory objectives.
  • Foster positive relationships with governmental agencies and work as a partner for continuous improvement.
  • Effectively address enforcement actions from local, state, or federal agencies.
  • Address deficiencies identified during internal plant, business unit and Enterprise environmental audits and assessments.
  • Support, maintain, and oversee the compliance calendar for all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert technical support in identifying, and resolving, critical regulatory issues & risks.
  • Guide incident investigations and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain environmental monitoring and recordkeeping to satisfy regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate required environmental testing of air, water, and waste sources.
  • Monitor and review changes to environmental regulations and standards. Update policies and procedures as necessary to comply with changes.
  • Assess product, process, and operational changes in consultation with legal personnel to determine regulatory and environmental impacts.
  • Act as the plant liaison on environmental issues affecting community and industrial neighbors.
  • Lead efforts to reduce the plant's environmental footprint in the community and achieve corporate operational sustainability goals.
  • Advise and guide the Natural Leadership Team (NLT) in developing a risk-ranked strategic plan, prioritize and advocate capital/resource requests, and advise the leadership team on all aspects of environmental requirements and responsibilities.


Lead Environmental Excellence and Continuous Improvement in Plant Operations



  • Lead and support environmental initiatives and processes to drive towards zero Notices of Violation (NOVs) and Environmental Noncompliance's (ENCs)
  • Develop, implement, track, and test environmental management systems (EMS) to drive continuous improvement in regulatory compliance and environmental impacts. Evaluate effectiveness of EMS and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Proactively participate in and lead efforts to identify and reduce risk across the plant.
  • Provide leadership for operational sustainability initiatives to reduce the plant's footprint in energy consumption, waste disposal, water usage and air and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Lead and support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) EHS programs in support of the overall plant strategy, including co-leading the EHS Pillar TPM team.
  • Serve as the plant's technical advisor for environmental, regulatory, and sustainability management systems.
  • Complete monthly sustainability reporting for the plant.



Engage & Develop Plant Employees in Plant Environmental Compliance



  • Ensure proper environmental training, awareness, and communications to all employees.
  • Lead, coach, and solicit input from team members to drive successful execution of plant environmental goals.
  • Maintain a leadership presence on the plant floor, influence employee and leadership behaviors, and fully engage employees in the environmental regulatory processes.
  • Assist with tracking of critical metrics that lead to 100% engaged EHS culture at the plant.
  • Recognize employee environmental accomplishments and contributions
  • Lead environmental program teams (e.g., Pollution Prevention Team, Storm Water Team, Waste Minimization Teams, etc.).
  • Support overall plant EHS goals and objectives, including supporting SAFER TOGETHER initiatives and processes to drive toward an injury free culture.
  • Participate in or lead other activities as assigned by the plant EHS Leader.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, engineering, or science discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficient in utilizing computer programs, including SAP, Microsoft Office, and online environmental reporting tools such as CDX.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations
  • Experience supporting facilities with Title V air permits is preferred
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems is preferred.
