The Vice President of Sales, Public Sector State & County is responsible for Medicaid growth opportunities that may be nationwide or geographically prescribed as needed. Markets may include direct to state/county or internal support of United Healthcare Community and State health plans. The individual will be responsible to identify relevant opportunities and execute winning sales efforts for behavioral health and specialty medical solutions and networks. Will leverage a large matrixed organization to achieve annual revenue goals. Will function in a direct sales role to achieve individual revenue goals.

If you are located in Midwest to West, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Follows each sales opportunity from pre-planning through full disposition
  • Works hand in hand with a wide variety of internal stakeholders to develop winning, state-specific solutions for adults and children and adolescents with behavioral health needs and coexisting medical needs
  • Guides product/operations resources to understand needs and to implement programs that bring design into reality
  • Attends and presents at national conferences
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with key community/stakeholder organizations
  • Establishes and cultivates strategic business relationships with key sales and market influencers, potential new customers, and related community institutions
  • Works closely with sales and marketing groups to translate business development strategies into specific initiatives, additional market research projects, and selling activities
  • May work closely with finance and other functions on potential acquisitions and alliances, but that is not the primary focus of jobs in this function
  • Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years in Medicaid
  • Experience working with community non-profits and other community organizations
  • Demonstrated experience working with State or County Medicaid Mental Health or IDD agencies
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare programs in the Medicaid market segment to include state and local is requisite
  • Proven solid background in public sector business and a proven record as a successful professional in this industry
  • Proven background in sales or account management, quality management, operations or the clinical area within the Medicare/Medicaid industry
  • Proven diverse background in the healthcare system and evidence of ability to build and leverage relationships both within the company and in the marketplace
  • Demonstrated contacts with state and local officials and public sector consultants that can be leveraged to identify opportunities, specify innovative solutions and deliver winning proposals
  • Proven flexible in a changing work environment dependent on collaboration with a variety of organizational departments
  • Proven to collaborate well with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to thrive in a matrixed ecosystem and gain alignment on goals and outputs
  • Proven capacity to drive new opportunities between $10M - $300M with State government clients
  • Proven ability to travel extensively (up to 50% of the time, sometimes more)



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with complex Requests for Proposal
  • Proven behavioral health background
  • Proven track record in creating growth in similar environment

The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $195,000 annually based on full-time employment. Role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
