PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Signals and Communications crews are primarily responsible for maintaining and operating the wayside signal systems signals, crossing and tracks to ensure safe train movement by supervising and adjusting signals. In the role, you will be encouraged to identify malfunctions and performing crucial repairs to the signal equipment. Based on CPKC's discretion and applicant's work experience you can be placed in the Assistant Signalman, or Signalman position.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Inspecting, testing, and repairing signal equipment like lights, track circuits, relays, and crossing gates
• Diagnosing issues with signal systems and implementing corrective actions Adjusting signal timing based on train schedules and track conditions
• Installing new signal components and replacing worn-out parts
• Maintaining detailed records of signal system operations and maintenance activities
• Ensuring accurate signal visibility and functionality, adhering to safety regulations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver's license: Commercial driver's licenses is an asset
• 70 -80%% travel requirement
• Acquire certifications in CPKC's safety rules
• Must be able to perform work that can be physically demanding, related construction and/or electrical/electronic field
• Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
• Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
• An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees. This is a high-risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
