Job Summary

Milwaukee Recreation Manager is seeking an individual to serve as its Recreation Arts Manager. This individual will be responsible for coordinating arts programming and arts support for Milwaukee Public Schools' extensive network of after school programs.

Major responsibilities include the administration and oversight of MPS's after school arts program and the Partnership for the Arts and Humanities program as well as collaboration with district partners and community groups to develop plans, implement programs, and share arts-related resources.

The ideal candidate is dynamic, highly organized, creative, and passionate about the impact of high-quality arts programming. The candidate should possess substantial experience working with youth, families, and art groups as well as implementing and monitoring arts programs. The candidate should advocate for equity in arts programming and support access to arts programs for youth and families in the city of Milwaukee.

The salary range is $79,171 - $114,078

Qualifications

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in arts, education, or a related field is required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience Requirement:

  • With a Bachelor's degree: A minimum of three (3) years of full-time, professional work experience or equivalent developing, implementing, and monitoring quality arts programs.
  • With a Master's degree: A minimum of one (1) year of full-time related experience.
  • Proven experience working with school administration, community partners, and students.
  • Experience working in an urban environment preferred.
Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and coordinate arts programming opportunities for over 1000 MPS After School Programs (Community Learning Centers, Safe Places, and Child Care Camps) by building community partnerships and linking sites to art-based opportunities.
  • Serve as a resource for best practices and trends in out-of-school time arts.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to one (1) full-time staff member and one (1) part-time resource staff to ensure professional growth and fulfillment of job duties and responsibilities. Establish performance measures for subordinates and evaluate performance against these standards.
  • Monitor the quality of arts programming across all MPS After School Programs, including establishing quality benchmarks, conducting site visits, completing program observation rubrics, etc.
  • Measure and monitor student participation and the impact of arts programming in MPS After School Programs.
  • Work with the MPS Arts Department to better align after school arts programming with day school goals, resources, and program offerings.
  • Oversee Partnership for the Arts & Humanities and Arts Internship program (approximately 2-million dollar budget).
  • Establish and manage an arts advisory committee comprised of internal and external stakeholders, such as local funders, nonprofit leaders, community artists, research professionals, etc.
  • Establish and manage an after school arts advisory committee comprises of representatives from MPS After School Programs, Lead Agencies, Principals, Camp staff, etc.
  • Identify and coordinate impactful arts-based training opportunities for after school staff, partners, Lead Agencies, etc.
  • Plan and implement a Partnership for the Arts & Humanities annual showcase of student skills, talents, and program reviews.
  • Assist with Recreation Department activities as needed.
  • Serve on various community or department committees as required and/or assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
