Overview Steam Plant Systems Engineering is looking to hire a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its management team as a Rotating and Balance of Plant Systems Engineer. The ideal candidate for this dynamic position must demonstrate a high energy level, understand the vital importance of Commitment to Excellence, and possess a high regard for Con Edison's Corporate Values and Mission. Requires excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal/external customers, agencies, and various levels of management. Must be a self-starter, able to exercise independent judgment and render sound business decisions. Must be well-organized, detail oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills. Strong leadership skills including experience in direct supervision, and the ability to positively manage and motivate others is required. Additionally, candidate must be available for emergency work 24/7 as required by system conditions. A bachelor's degree in engineering is required. A thorough understanding of turbo-machinery design, operations, maintenance, testing or analysis in the utility industry, oil & gas industry or marine propulsion is required. Experience with gas turbines, steam turbines, gas compressors, pumps, motors, fans, generators, or mechanical power transfer is required. Experience with plant and industry standard software and analysis tools (such as AMS) to initiate performance and availability improvement plans is preferred.Additionally, working knowledge of auxiliary systems and associated equipment such as fuel delivery systems, high energy piping systems, steam turbines, and generators is preferred. Must have working knowledge of inspection, repair, and environmental processes such as Non-Destructive Testing, welding techniques, including inspections and emissions control. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting steam plant operations is preferred. Knowledge of industry codes and standards and process safety measures is preferred.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Perform System Condition Assessments to identify and document system or component deficiencies, review equipment operation, and generate and drive corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain effective lines of communication among various internal and external organizations.
- Review and maintain System Descriptions, P&IDs, and other design basis documentation.
- Perform root cause analysis of component failures and forced outages.
- Provide engineering support to Steam Generating Stations.
- Participate in project planning, outages, and construction processes.
- Generate or review acceptance test plans and oversee or observe testing/commissioning.
- Interface with and track activities of equipment and service providers, both inside and outside the Company.
- Generate detailed reports and presentations to inform and guide Central Engineering capital planning and all levels of management.
- Establish and maintain effective lines of communication among various internal and external organizations.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of engineering experience working on engineering related design and modification of industrial systems. or
- Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of engineering experience working on engineering related design and modification of industrial systems.

- Working experience in electric and steam power plants. Required
- Working experience with gas turbines & Steam Turbines Required
- Working experience and knowledge of other mechanical equipment (i.e. gas compressors, pumps, motors, fans, generators or mechanical power transfer equipment). Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
- Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Physical Demands
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able to travel to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed.
- Must be willing and able to participate in sequence engineering program (which includes working nights, weekends, and an on-call schedule).
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the company service territory and sites requiring support including steam and electric plants.
- Must be willing and able to climb into steam structures and the ability to work and walk in all weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needs arise.
