The Role:

The Head of Transportation and Logistics NORAM is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of all transportation and logistics activities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role ensures seamless transportation and logistics activities, drives cost efficiencies, and delivers high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders. The position collaborates cross-functionally with global and regional teams to align with company objectives, implement innovative logistics solutions, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. Benchmarking against market-leading roles (e.g., Director of Logistics at Fortune 500 companies, VP of Supply Chain at mid-sized firms), this position emphasizes leadership, sustainability, and multimodal transportation expertise.

The position will be based either in Geneva, IL or Keokuk, IA.

Compensation:

The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $170,335-$230,600* (Geneva) In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and execute a regional transportation and logistics strategy to optimize cost, service quality, and sustainability across all modes (road, rail, air, and ocean).
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce carbon footprint, and improve delivery performance (e.g., OTIF - On-Time In-Full metrics).
  • Oversee vendor and carrier relationships, negotiating contracts to ensure cost-effective and reliable services while maintaining performance KPIs.
  • Implement global standards and policies for transportation and logistics, adapting them to regional needs and regulatory requirements (e.g., C-TPAT, DOT compliance).
  • Manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and report on key metrics such as freight spend, service levels, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive digital transformation in logistics operations, leveraging tools like SAP, TMS (Transportation Management Systems), and data analytics for real-time decision-making.
  • Collaborate with sales, procurement, production, and customer care teams to align logistics operations with business goals and customer expectations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of logistics and transportation professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Manage freight claims, third-party complaints, and RFQs as part of the logistics procurement process.

What You'll Need:

Functional, Leadership and Technical Competencies

  • Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation and logistics management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing North American operations.
  • Expertise in multimodal transportation (road, rail, air, ocean) and cross-border logistics (U.S., Canada, Mexico).
  • 5+ years of experience managing budgets and financial KPIs in a logistics context.
  • Proven track record of leading digital transformation projects (e.g., TMS implementation, IoT in logistics).
  • Experience in industries such as manufacturing, food, chemicals, or pharmaceuticals is preferred.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple facilities and initiatives concurrently.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices, including multimodal network optimization to reduce emissions.
  • Exceptional negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to align logistics strategies with broader business objectives while anticipating market trends. Ability to propose different alternatives, to help decision making, to mobilize and to set up a dynamic of process performance, being result-oriented and deeply committed
  • Ability to lead the teams at global and local levels through necessary changes in processes and ways of working, and to inspire cross functional improvement initiatives
  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and manage diverse teams in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to align logistics strategies with broader business objectives while anticipating market trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels, including C-suite and external partners.
  • Expertise in leading teams through process changes and technological advancements.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, SAP (preferred), TMS platforms, and data visualization tools.

Travel requirements

30% travel to Keokuk (if based in Geneva); 15% travel to Geneva (if based in Keokuk)
