Position Summary:

The Tooling Systems & Software Technician is responsible for all tool setting equipment to include measurement, maintaining a tooling database, and tool setting programming at the site. This includes coordinating repairs, calibrations, and equipment upgrades. The Tooling Systems & Software Technician will draw on some prior knowledge of software used in tooling and manufacturing environments. They will work alongside both the CNC Programming team as well as the Operations team to ensure all tooling needs are promptly addressed. This position will provide multisite support on occasion.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Create tool assemblies and corresponding components within Zoller Tool Management Software (TMS), this includes creating and managing a database of tooling and component inventory.
  • Create and validate tool measurement programs for all tool setting systems.
  • Independently setup and prove-out new tool setting and measurement cycles on all tool setting systems within the site(s).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing tool setting and measurement cycles.
  • Tool Setting site focal point for all technical teams, Operations, Maintenance, vendors, and IT.
  • Author and maintain detailed set-up sheets to support tooling assemblies.
  • Stock inventory into the tool towers to support tooling assembly.
  • Coordinate and manage all machine calibrations, services, and repairs.
  • Create work instructions and standards for the various systems maintaining alignment with all other SIG facilities.
  • Manage storage locations for tool assemblies in Zoller cabinets (Keepers).
  • Perform tool setting on a variety of equipment and holder types.
  • Engages in continuous improvement projects/tasks.
  • Participates in and sustains 5S
  • Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Associate's degree or certification in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality or other Engineering discipline is preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered.
  • 1-3 years CNC Machining experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced software such as: CAD/CAM, Python, C+, Photo editors, or 3D printing (slicing software). Proficiency in other software will be considered.
  • Effectively uses Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Skilled in precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures, and gauges to check work.
  • Mechanically inclined, with experience using intermediate machinery.
  • Highly organized and self-directed.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting part drawings.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
