Group: Planning and Economic Development

Position: Associate Planner

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Our upstart and growing planning and landscape architecture group helps our clients stay ahead of the curve and finds unique and innovative solutions to everyday problems. Our planning group specializes in both rural and urban redevelopment planning, sub-area plans, urban design projects, strategic investment planning, economic development and general land-use planning.

The Associate Planner position is an entry-level production position that is responsible for assisting other members of the Planning Group in preparing various types of plans, reports, graphics, and analysis for a wide variety of project types. This position might also be responsible for assisting other groups in the company with planning and design related projects (outreach and public involvement, project development). Additional duties will include support in areas such as fieldwork, communication, and research.



Responsibilities

    Provide assistance with planning process duties including:
    • Interviewing/data gathering
    • Research
    • Data analysis/synthesis
    • Graphic communications - plans, maps, diagrams, presentation materials (digital, boards, reports)
    • Writing
    • Visioning and goals development
    • Economic and demographic data research/ analysis
    • Public meeting, outreach support, engagement
    • Development standards and ordinance writing
  • Potential projects may include the following:
    • Comprehensive and neighborhood development plans
    • Downtown and community revitalization plans
    • Special area master plans
    • Economic development studies
    • Parks and Trails Master Plans
    • Alternative transportation plans
    • Public participation
  • Provide support to other departments in the company with planning related projects (outreach and public involvement, project development)


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or related fied of study
  • 1 or more years of experience in the field of Community Planning, Urban Planning, Urban Design, and/or Community Development
  • Must be highly-motivated and possess the ability to work independently or on a team on concurrent projects in a fast-paced professional environment
  • Resourceful and critical problem solving
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of Adobe design software (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator), Google SketchUp, and ArcView GIS
