Sheet Metal Superintendent

Position Identification:
Exempt
Reports to: Sheet Metal Manager

Position Summary:

The Sheet Metal Superintendent is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the daily activities of the fabrication shop and production crews. The Superintendent will be responsible for fabricating and installing sheet metal products and systems with the highest degree of quality, in the safest and most cost effective manner.
Job Functions:
  • Provide training, leadership and direction to the fabrication shop employees and multiple installation crews.
  • Train employees on safety procedures and safety equipment.
  • Complete timely performance reviews on all sheet metal employees.
  • Maximize productivity while maintaining job costs, installation quality and employee safety.
  • Ensure the proper utilization of materials and equipment.
  • Recruit, mentor and retain a dependable and knowledgeable sheet metal workforce.
  • Ensure quality practices for the department.
  • Educate employees on sheet metal best practices, terminology, materials and equipment.
  • Plan, administrate, and participate as an instructor in Company sponsored education programs for the workforce.
  • Promote proper work ethic and enforce the Company's policies, procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of PC software applications including Word and Excel.
  • Possesses a working knowledge in blue print reading and specifications.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Occasional travel and out of town work is required.
  • Available to work for extended hours when necessary.
  • Must not be afraid of heights.
  • Extensive knowledge with multiple types of sheet metal products and systems.
  • Advanced planning skills for establishing maximum productivity of workforce, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to represent the Company in a professional manner, promoting the organization in a positive and productive discipline which will serve as an example to others.
  • Other critical skills include problem identification/resolution, multi-tasking, follow-through skills to bring tasks to closure, priority setting, and having a sense of urgency in accomplishing tasks in a timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable):
  • Ability to conduct panel layout based on current shop drawings.
  • Field measure ACM panels and communicates measurements to the fabrication team.
  • Ability to install and layout ACM (composite panel/rainscreen system) according to installation manual.
  • Ability to install and layout hidden fastener panels.
  • Ability to install exposed fastener panels.
  • Ability to measure and install custom trims, including but not limited to aluminum and copper.
  • Vision to see critical path areas for optimal performance and scheduling.

Working Conditions:

Physical surroundings: Office environment with typical office machines and exposure to noise and temperature.
