Job Summary

The Apprenticeship Instructor will provide instructional support for the Company's apprenticeship requirements through instruction, instructional design, and facilitation of courses catered to a wide range of employee skill levels (craft, front-line field-staff, and supervisors). The Apprenticeship Instructor will also be responsible for the preparation and delivery of training material to craft workforce in the areas of safety, craft skills, and apprenticeship requirements.


Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values".
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics".
  • Under the primary direction of Matrix Service Inc.'s Apprenticeship Manager, performs a wide range of activities related to classroom instruction and lesson planning.
  • Maintains familiarity with and acts in accordance with the Matrix Service Inc. Apprenticeship and NCCER policies and procedures.
  • Prepares assignments, which may include studying/customizing existing instructor/facilitator guides, as well as possibly developing the curriculum.
  • Ensures effective learning tools (i.e., handouts, workbooks, audio-visual materials, and simulations) are ready in ample time for the class start time.
  • Uses effective adult learning techniques to accomplish stated learning objectives for a variety of learning styles.
  • Conducts organized classes at the instructional level to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and the course information sheets.
  • Provides instruction for programs by delivery of multiple modules for craft skills training through NCCER, Company specific training programs and various safety compliance training programs.
  • Prepares and uses Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI) to ensure apprentices learn the craft(s) to an acceptable level of mastery.
  • Maintains necessary records on a weekly and/or monthly basis of student enrollment, attendance, progress, grades, related supplemental instruction (RSI) hours, and work process hours; prepares and submits required reports to the Apprenticeship Lead or Apprenticeship Manager.
  • Maintains control of equipment, materials and supplies as assigned.
  • Assists in developing and organizing training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials for the Apprenticeship Program and related programs.
  • Makes recommendations on ways to improve the Apprenticeship Program.
  • Delivers instruction of additional required trainings such as High Hazard Facility Training, Matrix Basic Safety Orientation and site-specific orientation training, as needed.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.


          Qualifications

          • 7+ years of hands-on experience in the construction industry or related trades required.
          • Meets the requirements of the state board for community and technical colleges for a vocational-technical instructor: or
          • Is recognized within the petrochemical industry as having expertise in mechanical maintenance and/or general skilled labor and is a subject matter expert; and
          • Has training in teaching techniques and adult learning styles.
          • Current Instructor Certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) or the ability to obtain and maintain certification within a specified timeframe.
          • Demonstrated knowledge of NCCER Policies and Procedures.
          • Ability to prepare and present information and material in a classroom instructional situation; classroom management is a must.
          • Ability to plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and modify instructional processes relating to the comprehensive Related Supplemental Instruction curriculum of an occupation.
          • Working knowledge of MS Office products to effectively utilize computers and peripheral devices necessary to complete the course instruction.
          • Effective oral and written communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills.



          Hourly pay rate for this position: $61.30 per hour
