The Chemist in this role will be responsible for leading projects focusing on Ancillaries (Clear coats & undercoats) for Vehicle Refinish. This role is an excellent growth opportunity that will allow the ability to perform at a high level on a cross-functional team to meet the technical specifications defined by the customers in these segments. This position will be accountable for new Product development and reformulation of existing products where is needed.

  • Independently lead development projects of moderate to high complexity within the Automotive NPD Ancillary Team, with moderate supervision.
  • Responsible for developing new products for the Refinish market, including but not limited to Commercial Vehicle Refinish.
  • Develop new products or modify existing ones as required.
  • Apply proven coatings technology to address raw material supply disruptions.
  • Ensure timely completion of product development projects.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing and internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Identify and implement formula and process adjustments, including relevant test methods, based on experimental findings.
  • Design and execute experiments using the scientific method; prepare and test paint samples, analyze data, and determine next steps based on results.
  • Collaborate and communicate with team members, Marketing, Manufacturing, Procurement, vendors, and other business partners to ensure successful product commercialization; leverage internal networks when appropriate.
  • Follow the PCG Stage-Gate process for new product development.
  • Contribute effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Deliver results using established laboratory practices and professional standards.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area in accordance with all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • 3 years of coatings formulation experience in an industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of structure-property relationship as it pertains to automotive refinish, OE Interior, or aerospace coatings.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's Degree or higher in a science related area
  • 5 years of coatings formulation experience
  • 3 years of Automotive coatings experience
  • Prior experience formulating and processing pigment dispersions
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing DFSS tools
  • Experience operating paint processing equipment (mills)
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
  • Design of Experiment
  • Understands Voice of the Customer
  • Project leadership


Travel Requirements: 10%

Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at Warrensville Technology Center, located at 4440 Warrensville Center Road, Warrensville Hts, OH 44128.
