Job Title: Process Improvement Intern - Glazing Analysis (Temporary, 3 Months)

Location: Champion Ignition Plant Cambridge, Ohio

Department: Department 16 - Production

Reports To: Engineering Manager / Plant Manager

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical intern to assist in addressing persistent glazing issues in Department 16. This temporary, project-based role will involve data collection, process review, root cause investigation, and development of actionable recommendations to improve quality and reduce scrap related to glazing defects. The role is ideal for a candidate pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Observe and document the current glazing process in Department 16.
  • Collect and analyze data on defect rates, production cycles, environmental conditions, and material inputs.
  • Identify patterns, inefficiencies, or non-standard practices contributing to glazing defects.
  • Interview operators and supervisors to gain insight on day-to-day process challenges.
  • Support root cause analysis and develop short- and long-term corrective actions.
  • Assist in testing or piloting process adjustments to evaluate improvements.
  • Create a final report summarizing findings, root causes, and recommended action plan.
  • Present findings to plant leadership at the conclusion of the project.


Qualifications:



  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Operations Management, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and quality control concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to interact with operators and leadership.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and basic data visualization tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a production environment.



Internship Duration:



  • 3 months (May - August) Will define based on return to school
  • Target Start: [May 2025)
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, standard plant hours
