Wieland is hiring a Local Driver II. The Local Driver II will be responsible for transporting raw materials and manufactured products across the United States and the globe, and we're looking for an experienced Class A CDL driver to make local deliveries! Delivery locations are within 150 miles of our campus, so you are going to be home every night. This position is an hourly, overtime eligible position. This role is located in Granite City, IL and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $25 - $30/hr

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 6 am - 2:30 pm

Pay Schedule: Weekly

Responsibilities

Local Driver II Responsibilities:

    Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues with correct documentation.
  • Comply with DOT rules and regulations as well as with company policies and procedures.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
  • Collect and verify delivery instructions.
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations.
  • Ability to ensure trailers are locked out and chocked before loading/unloading.
  • Maintains driver log according to DOT regulations.
  • Maintains contact with supervisor, dispatcher, scale house operator to receive work instructions.
  • Work in a timely, safe, and responsible manner to meet customer or company requirements.

Local Driver II Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 22 years old, have a minimum of 5 years of experience and possess a valid Class A CDL license.
  • Clean driving record. Not Cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous three years.
  • Ability to pass the DOT physical and drug screen.
  • Have knowledge of and compliance with company policy and all federal, state, local laws and regulations governing the operation of company equipment.
  • Good communication skills; conveys information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; adjusts communication to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as BOL's, Freight logs and intermodal trans documents, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use a digital camera and upload pictures according to company standards.
  • Adapts to change quickly and easily and performs effectively during times of change; demonstrates the ability to multi-task and manages competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
  • Be a safety champion by promoting a safe and productive workplace through your own actions, including the proper use of PPE, safe operation of powered equipment and safe lifting techniques as determined by the role.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs and ability to open containers.
  • Our drivers routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts and at times need to climb on to the truck containers to smooth loads or secure tarps for transport. In addition, the position involves lifting (up to 50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, and bending.
