Job Overview

The Associate General Counsel provides legal advice and guidance to Children's Hospital Colorado and its leaders and team members; performs research and analysis of legal issues and conducts investigations into legal or compliance issues, drafting legal opinions or findings; and monitors compliance with policies and procedures for contract management.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Juris doctor (JD) degree.
  • EXPERIENCE - Five (5) years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Provides legal advice and guidance on regulatory, compliance, patient care, litigation, and other legal matters that impact the enterprise and its staff; provides legal support and counsel to various internal committees.
  • Performs research and analysis of legal issues, making recommendations and preparing legal opinions that dictate action to minimize business and legal risk.
  • Directs or conducts investigations into legal or compliance issues; coordinates and works with outside counsel on selected matters. Drafts and prepares legal opinions, motions, and pleadings to be filed in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings.
  • Applies specialized knowledge to the performance of legal support in one or more for the following areas: labor and employment, real estate (leases and property management), academic programs, health care compliance, grants and contracting, intellectual technology, medical staff relations, non-profit tax issues, and accreditations matters.
  • Establishes and monitors compliance with policies and procedures for review, execution, and administration of hospital contracts and other legal documents. Drafts and negotiates contracts as necessary. Assists with management of contracts.
  • Develops and implements processes to improve the quality, efficacy, and cost effectiveness of legal services, such as preparation of document templates or contract standardization.
  • Develops and implements training and education on a variety of legal matters.
  • Works collaboratively on risk management issues, including potentially compensable events, claims management, and litigation management.
  • Works collaboratively with the professional service departments on the requirements of Joint Commission, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Health and Human Services, and other regulatory or standard setting organizations.
  • Participates in leadership activities for the division, assigns and reviews annual goals, provides work instruction (on-the-job or formal training), and develops team members/leaders. Evaluates performance, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues, including hiring and terminating team members/leaders. Reviews and approves changes to internal processes as recommended by team members/leaders; identifies and implements process improvements. Serves as a champion of enterprise-wide culture, influencing cultural change to support operational objectives.

Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is strategic and operational in nature.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $177,981.77 to $296,636.28
Hourly Salary Range: $85.57 to $142.61
