Responsibilities

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Tooling Specialist V, Machine Build in our Fullerton, CA location.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Fabricate and assemble all tooling pertaining to custom machine automation including tooling prints, production prints.
  • Must be able to set up/operate all tool room type machinery. * Diagnose causes of malfunctions in machines, equipment, and related mechanisms.
  • Identify, broken, worn or otherwise defective parts, assembly, tooling, and fixtures, and determine whether they can and/or should be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced.
  • Participate with engineers an manufacturing management in designing modifications to machines and equipment
  • Determine type, configuration, dimensions, quantity, quality, and/other characteristics of materials and parts required for repairing, rebuilding and/or modifying machines, equipment
  • Describe materials, configurations, dimensions, specifications, and/or procedures required for fabricating and/or machining and/or treat heating and finishing parts, tools, fixtures, etc, by writing specifications and making sketches and shop drawings
  • Determine whether parts, tooling, and fixtures can or should be repaired, rebuilt, or fabricated in-house, or whether services or items should be obtained from outside sources.
  • Request materials, tooling, and equipment as needed.
  • Lay out materials, and set-up and operate various machine shop machines and equipment to perform the difficult fabrication and machining of precision parts, tooling, fixtures.
  • Provide less qualified machinists with specifications, instructions, and guidance, as required, for performing less difficult fabrication and machining of parts, tooling, fixtures, etc;
  • Inspect repaired, rebuilt, and new parts, assemblies, tooling, fixtures, etc., to ensure conformity to specifications.
  • Trouble-shoot and solve problems of the most advanced level
  • Consistently Identifies potential improvements, e.g. decrease run-time, increase tool life, etc.
  • Able to complete one off jobs to exacting tolerances without direct supervision
  • Needs to be team driven and meet goals set for the department

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:



  • Five to seven years of experience in set up operation of five die Nut formers or equivalent previous experience with a fastener manufacturing company.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine documentation. Ability to speak clearly and effectively with managers, supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; and Ability to trouble-shoot and solve problems of the most advanced level. Must possess a working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys.


Physical Demands:


  • Must be able to lift/move 30 lbs. (may not exceed per EHS policies).
  • Able to work in extreme hot environment.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to use a respirator occasionally.
