Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research ( OVCR) oversees, develops, supports, and grows UNC-Chapel Hill's $1 billion research enterprise. The offices reporting to the OVCR set strategic priorities for research, manage proposals and awards, provide research infrastructure, identify funding opportunities, develop research teams and partnerships, oversee regulatory compliance, and communicate the impact and value of the University's research enterprise. The OVCR enables research endeavors for faculty, students, and scholars; encourages interdisciplinary research collaboration across campus; and fosters expansion and diversification of the University's sponsored research portfolio by collaborating with foundations, federal agencies, corporations, and the state and federal governments. The Vice Chancellor for Research also oversees multiple pan-University, multidisciplinary research centers and institutes.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to advance the research of Dr. Kaitlyn Burnell, a lead researcher at the Winston Center for Technology and the Developing Mind. Specifically, this person will assist with grant-funded studies examining social relationships and neurodevelopment in adolescents' lives, with a special focus on projects related to device usage during school hours. Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to, assisting the PI with: data collection, data management, participant retention, and helping students as directed (research assistants and undergraduates).

This position is responsible for assisting with human subjects-related research tasks following established research procedures. The job assists PI with the recruitment and data collection activities from child and adolescent participants, which includes helping with the consenting/assenting families, and applying basic standardized quality control. The position will also involve data collection in school settings, which includes traveling to local schools to administer surveys, coordinate logistics with school staff, and interact with student participants in accordance with study protocols.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in a research setting working with study participants.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, and strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Bilingual in written and spoken Spanish and English. Ability to learn and use several technological tools, including Qualtrics, SPSS, Microsoft Office, and software for coding and analyzing data (e.g., Matlab).
