Job Summary

The Caltech Center for Technology and Management Education (CTME) provides professional and executive training for technology-driven organizations and individuals. In a typical year, CTME will work with 15-20 organizations to develop customized training programs to support technology transfer and the adoption of new business approaches. CTME also offers over 50 public classes. Courses are provided on campus, at corporate sites, online via Zoom and Teams, and on-demand through our Learning Management System. CTME works with Institute faculty and staff, other university partners, industry training providers, and consultants to develop, deploy, and evaluate this training.

Reporting to the CTME Executive Director, the Deputy Director is responsible for driving growth and revenue by identifying new business opportunities, supporting current clients, and designing, developing, and delivering professional and executive training. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in business and operations management in the training or education sector, exceptional communication and negotiation skills, and a strong ability to build and maintain business relationships. This is a full-time, regular position.

This is an Organizational Critical position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as organizational critical is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in division/department response and recovery efforts.

Essential Job Duties
  • Support the development and execution of a comprehensive business development strategy to drive growth and achieve revenue targets.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including potential clients, partnerships, and markets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, industry associations, and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns and promotional activities to generate leads and increase brand awareness.
  • Support the development and negotiation of proposals, contracts, and agreements with clients and partners.
  • Manage the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs, including interfacing with CTME staff, instructors, and client personnel.
  • Monitor and analyze sales and business development metrics to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide strategic guidance and input to the CTME management team on business development initiatives, market trends and opportunities, industry trends and best practices, and emerging technologies in training.
  • Represent CTME at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to promote our services and establish thought leadership.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Proven skills and vision in training development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Experience in supporting and leveraging technical teams and complex business systems requirements and processes.
  • Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments involving sensitive and confidential information across multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and manage and impart information to a range of clientele.
  • Demonstrated skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Proven experience with leading complex projects using standard management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating professional and executive training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice and adhere to organizational values.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of industry experience in a technological sector.

Hiring Range

$180,000 to $220,000 per year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
