JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Revenue Cycle team are excited to announce a new opportunity for the role of Payment Specialist II. Works under general supervision to research, investigate and post payments to patient, company, suspense and pending accounts. The Payment Specialist II is responsible for managing and processing a wide range of financial transactions with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of payment posting, PLBs, and work ques. The Payment Specialist II serves as a key point of contact for internal departments, resolving payment discrepancies, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with company policies.

Work Shift

Shift: 8-hour flex scheduled shift, Monday thru Friday. Must begin by 9am each workday.

Work From Home (WFH) This is a potential work from home position. Applicant must live within the State of Texas. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    High School Diploma or equivalent


  • Experience
    4 years hospital/medical office payment posting or bookkeeping experience.


JOB DUTIES



  • Posts payments received from insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, direct patient payments, etc. to invoices which may involve: contacting insurance companies, patients and/or other insurance carriers to resolve questions to which invoice payments should be posted.
  • Updates Financial Status Classification (FSC) of patients, prepares journal vouchers and generates invoices.
  • Analyzes automatic processes for correctness and posts all edits and rejects as required. Posts rejected and pre-post edits manually for payments received electronically with knowledge of electronic positing and reconciliation process.
  • Research problem accounts in order to properly post payments. Elevates appropriate positing issues to management.
  • Balances all batches and resolves discrepancies.
  • Investigates and resolves unidentified transactions no later than the fifth day of the following month in which they are received, according to departmental procedures.
  • Investigates and resolves reactivated account transactions no later than two business days from the date in which they are received, according to departmental procedures.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
