Job Description

The Director of Design Services will play a pivotal role at Mizzou Online in shaping the vision, strategy, and execution of online instructional and media design services for the University of Missouri. This role involves providing design, development, and evaluation services to colleges, departments and faculty, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards, and promoting effective online course and program design strategies. This position will lead a team of instructional and experience designers, as well as work directly with complementary education support services, including Academic Technology, Program Coordination, Office of Accessibility, Office of Student Affairs and more.

The Director of Design Services will also be required to attend the annual on-site Mizzou Online All Staff Retreat, Director Retreats, and other on-site events or meetings as business needs dictate. Travel for this position is expected to be minimal.

Key Responsibilities
Provide strong leadership and vision to the instructional and experience design team
Direct workflows to achieve departmental goals
Lead and participate in Mizzou Online university-wide committees and task forces as required
Execute the design team's online education priorities of programmatic support, course design and development, quality course review and faculty development
Lead continuous improvement efforts through the evaluation of Mizzou Online processes, trainings, services and results
Foster and cultivate a culture rooted in the values mentioned above
Advocate for best practices in online pedagogy
Build strong partnerships with University of Missouri deans and department chairs to create and meet programmatic support, course design and development, quality course review and faculty development goals
Promote design team services and expertise
Create an annual design team budget
Set long- and short-term design team goals
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm CST

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

8 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired
Master's or PhD in Education Administration, Instructional Design or applicable discipline
Experience in leading an instructional design team in higher education, including budgetary oversight, staff supervision, and project administration
Experience in the successful application of project management principles to the course design process
Remote work experience

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,027 per year
Grade: GGS 012
