Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary or hourly range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,200 - $86,100.

Job Closing Date

These positions are fully in-person.

These positions are a one-year contracts eligible for full UC benefits.

About the Job

As the Business Officer, this position involves performing administrative services for the Center for Education Partnerships (CEP) at UC Merced. This position will work closely with the Business Manager on administrative services including budgeting for operational funds, general accounting and invoicing as well as financial reconciliations; departmental procurement and inventories; compliance with UC Policy and Procedures; space and computer systems management. The position requires a broad base of technical knowledge and highly effective communication and problem-solving abilities. The Business Officer interacts with students, peers and other managers across campus departments as needed and also takes direction from the department's leadership team, or the Director of Administrative Operations for Student Affairs. The Business Officer must have demonstrated experience in organizing an office and expertise in computer programs (Microsoft programs and web-based applications). The incumbent must have strong communication and organizational skills, and must be flexible and able to prioritize workload. Background and knowledge regarding travel and entertainment policy and procedures is highly desirable. Writes, edits and proofreads correspondence, grants and reports. Analyzes correspondence and ensures that follow up actions are completed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports with the management of post-award activities using knowledge of grant and contract management rules and regulation, technical expertise, and analytical skills. Monitors budget and prepares local transfer of funds and inter-location transfer of funds related to maintaining budget. Prepares corrected entries, financial journal and other documents.
  • Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports for funding which may be complex.
  • Coordinates and participates in a variety of human resources activities including employment, training, classification, and ensuring the completion of forms and documents related to HR and Payroll for unit / department. Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes financial and HR reports.
  • Supports with the logistics for student program activities, campus visits, and summer activities.
  • Develops and implements procedures for supply inventory and to keep equipment in good working condition.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in related area from an accredited institution. (Required)
  • 3 years of directly related experience, or equivalent experience/training. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs. Ability to utilize computerized applications for work processing and spreadsheets, as well as web-based financial applications.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, bot verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-talk with demanding timeframes. Ability to manage workload, both independently and as part of a team and the ability to meet deadlines and deal with stressful situations.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience with office management, accounting, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical skills. Ability to analyze complex issues and prepare concise reports and the ability to use internet and other resources for information gathering.
  • Strong leadership skills including facilitation and presentation skills and excellent oral written communication skills.
  • Experience in the University setting. (Preferred)
