Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Controller, Director reporting directly to Corporate Controller, VP.

LOCATION: (HYBRID) Washington, D.C.

JOB STATUS: Full time

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to support Astrion's financial operations. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role will assist in managing the company's accounting functions, ensure compliance with government regulations (including FAR and CAS), support audits, and provide financial insights to drive operational effectiveness. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in government contract accounting, GAAP, and internal controls, and thrives in a fast paced, mission driven environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and other regulatory requirements relevant to government contracting

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses

  • Assist in the preparation of incurred cost submissions, DCAA audits, and other government reporting

  • Help manage general ledger activities, job costing, and project accounting.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting efforts, providing analytical insight to operational leaders

  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial systems

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including Contracts, HR, and Operations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred

  • 16+ years of accounting experience in a services based, government contracting environment, including 5+ years as an Assistant Controller

  • Strong knowledge of FAR, CAS, and government compliance requirements

  • Experience with Deltek (Costpoint)

  • Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and audit preparation

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools
