DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for keeping inmate accounts up to date and accurate by recording, reviewing, classifying, and processing inmate transactions and revenue-producing activities under the Inmate General Welfare Fund's (IGWF) Accounting Manual. Work involves staying up to date on inmate releases and transfers as well as answering requests or inquiries concerning inmate accounts and resolving discrepancies that may arise. You will also be responsible for preparing release forms, processing blocked invoices, as well as processing inmate cash slips for inside and outside purchases. Additional tasks include:
- Completing a variety of accounting transactions
- Preparing deposits for IGWF activities
- Updating records for commissary sales and payroll transactions
- Handling transactions for the cable system
- Verifying required documents and entering data into the Integrated Offender Case Management System (IOCMS)

- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
- An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
