The Team:

The Advertising, Marketing, Standards and Practices, and E-Commerce Legal team advises on all of Mattel's consumer facing assets, e.g., advertising assets, packaging compliance, marketing promotions, social media accounts, as well as on the production and distribution of all original content and other entertainment assets distributed in any media (e.g., television, streaming, and digital), including, but not limited to, short-form videos, traditional long-form content, feature films, product and mobile apps, digital games, licensed partnerships activity and products to ensure compliance with regulations related to advertising and marketing and industry standards. The team also leads compliance and regulatory support for Mattel's e-commerce platform(s) and websites. Expect a dynamic and fast-faced role where you get to make decisions that impact the foundation of this team.

The Opportunity:

Mattel is seeking a motivated, passionate, collaborative and driven Paralegal to help support Mattel's growing digital experiences, apps, games, websites, social media platforms, and e-commerce business as well as advertising and marketing regulatory practice across Mattel's portfolio of brands. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in regulatory compliance of digital products, including but not limited to, advising on terms and conditions, platform clearances, the FTC mail-order-rule, subscription laws, email collection, CAN-SPAM, translations, pricing, advertising and marketing, and COPPA, and will be able to build and foster trusting relationships with executive and creative partners, handling all matters with diplomacy in an environment of changing technological and regulatory infrastructure, short turnarounds, and strict deadlines.

What Your Impact Will Be:

* Review and advise on compliance and regulatory issues related to digital assets, including mobile apps, games websites, social media platforms, etc., advertisement assets, marketing campaigns, and promotions (e.g., television commercials, digital ads, influencer initiatives, sweepstakes/contests/giveaways, branded websites, and in-store signage).

* On an as-needed basis, review and advise on entertainment content (e.g., short-form/digital content, episodic programming, feature-length films, mobile apps and games, and products and partnerships), as assigned, to ensure compliance with advertising and marketing laws, COPPA, and any other applicable laws and regulations domestically and internationally, any self-regulatory guidelines (e.g., CARU), as well as industry best practices and internal standards.

* Track pending legislation, regulations, and/or industry trends related to emerging platforms, digital media, social media, mobile apps and games, privacy, AI, advertising and marketing.

* Draft memos, guidelines, training, or other write ups as requested and under the supervision and guidance of the Managing Attorney(s).

* Work closely with other team leads to ensure alignment of policies, procedures, and practices across the department.

* Position involves daily direct contact with internal clients, colleagues, and attorneys, as well as some contact with outside counsel.

* This individual will be required to actively manage multiple matters simultaneously and respond to day-to-day questions and issues that often involve novel legal subject matter and evolving legal and regulatory requirements.

What We're Looking For:

  • BA/BS degree and preferably, a Paralegal certificate
  • Research, understand and apply regulations;
  • Identify and analyze issues and elevate as appropriate;
  • Take ownership of issues and matters through to their appropriate conclusion;
  • Prioritize and manage multiple matters, providing timely responses;
  • Communicate effectively in person and in writing;
  • Be a creative, positive, proactive, self-starter with the ability to work independently across multiple teams and consistently exercise great judgment;
  • Attend to detail, especially when communicating, analyzing, and applying legal and regulatory concepts;
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, in writing and in person; and
  • Apply general standards and principles to specific cases logically, practically, and consistently.
  • 3+ years as a paralegal with experience at a law firm or a large company law department.
  • Preferably, 2 to 3 years' experience in tech, digital media, social media, AI, or e-commerce, focusing on compliance, privacy, and/or other regulatory support.
  • Candidate should possess the ability to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and time-sensitive environment, and be able to exercise independent judgment when advising on a wide range of issues affecting key initiatives across the Mattel portfolio of brands.

The base hourly rate for this position is between$30.00 and $46.00 per hour.
