About the Job

Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Music (Jazz); 1-year, full-time, nine-month, renewable temporary position. This position will report to the Division of the Humanities Chair.

Responsibilities:

(90%) Provide leadership in our distinctive jazz and commercial music ensembles and combos; organize and coordinate the annual Jazz Fest in collaboration with campus partners; teach music technology, improvisation, composition and/or an applied area; offer other courses in music, such as theory or jazz history, consistent with the needs of the university and one's qualifications and experience; oversee and train student workers for the recital hall audio booth; and assist with recruitment efforts for ensembles and for the institution.

(10%) Provide leadership of the Morris Challenge. Initiate outreach, develop and execute strategic plans. Develop partnerships with the local community, the region, and elsewhere that may include industrial manufacturing, leading agribusinesses, crop agriculture, foundations, corporations, or other partners. Work directly with the Office of Advancement to secure private giving. Serve as the brand ambassador.

Qualifications

Doctorate in jazz studies or a related field preferred; candidates who are ABD or who have completed a master's degree will be considered. Candidates with their doctorate by date of appointment will be appointed as assistant professor/lecturer; an ABD or masters will be appointed as teaching specialist. At least one year of college teaching experience is preferred.

Pay Range: $56000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
