About the Job

Summary: Perform research on RNA and DNA aptamers. Discover aptamers by in vitro selection for fluorescent imaging. Perform biophysical characterization of aptamers.

Job Duties:

Perform in vitro selection of nucleic acids (40%)
-Selection of functional nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) by SELEX
-Prepare and submit NGS of SELEX libraries
-NGS analysis

Biophysical characterization of RNAs (40%)
-Characterize functional nucleic acid binding to target ligands
-Characterize functional behavior (fluorescence, catalysis) of nucleic acids

Routine operational lab duties (20%)
-Preparation of buffers, stock solutions, etc as needed for above tasks

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
PhD in biochemistry
5+ years of experience with in vitro selection of fluorescent aptamers
5+ years of experience with biophysical nucleic acids assays
5+ years of experience with optical spectroscopy (UV-vis, fluorescence)

About the Department

The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphasis on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 or new NIH minimum when announced; depending on education/qualifications/experience
