Position Summary

The Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico's Health Sciences Center is recruiting for a highly motivated professional with excellent organizational skills to join our administrative team as a Medical Education Program Coordinator. The Medical Education Program Coordinator will help support the department's clinically focused education programs, primarily residency and fellowship training.

The Pathology Department provides post-graduate medical training to 16 residents in our 4-year training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In addition, the department offers six separate fellowship training programs in sub-disciplines ranging from transfusion medicine to forensic pathology.

The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with the Medical Education Program Manager and the department's leadership team. This includes the Vice-Chair of Education, Residency Program Directors, and respective faculty Clinical Fellowship Directors to administer the recruitment and selection process and to provide support to the full spectrum of educational activities. Activities include maintaining curriculum and didactic schedules, handling evaluations, and coordinating rotation schedules.

Additional responsibilities include resident and fellow support during onboarding, assisting in resident recruitment, managing fellowship interviews, serving as medical student liaison for UNM and visiting students, as well as providing support for the residents and fellows professional endeavors. Flexibility to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the programs may be required.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

  • 3- 5 years' experience coordinating a medical residency program
  • Knowledge of medical residency success standards and competencies
  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
  • Previous experience with New Innovations software especially in regards to enhanced applications and report generation
  • Ability to determine informational needs, to collect and analyze information, and to devise and develop statistical analyses and reports
  • Expertise in developing online educational content via learning management systems
  • Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or re-engineering operating strategies, systems, and procedures
  • Knowledge of program planning and scheduling techniques, development, and implementation
  • Ability to establish and maintain complex, interrelated training schedules
  • Experience with planning and managing special events
  • Knowledge of University of New Mexico purchasing and travel policies and procedures
  • Ability to manage a budget, track expenditures, and create summary financial reports
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Preference will be given to applicants with post-graduate training in education and/or experience in administering similar educational program
