Position Summary

UNM Center for Teaching and Learning is looking for a talented individual to join our team and serve in the position of Data Manager. The person selected for this position will report to the CTL Executive Director and work closely with leaders of Student Learning Assistance and Graduate Support as well as Teaching Support and Digital Learning. They will provide a wide array of data organization, processing, analysis, and reporting for CTL and partner units that rely on CTL data.

The data manager will maintain their expertise in current practices for information management and data integrity. They will effectively supervise and train a team including both full-time staff and student employees.

The ideal candidate will be self-directed with excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong data analysis, management, and organization competence. They will have demonstrated capabilities in the following areas:

  • Experience creating, cleaning, and analyzing large data sets and sensitive data.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and application to educational data
  • Experience with stats programs such as Excel, SPSS, and other software.
  • Experience using R, Python, or similar approaches to cleaning data.
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses (e.g., regression, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, etc.).
  • Experience creating, documenting, and training others on data workflows.
  • Experience with data visualizations in Tableau or PowerBI (or similar tools)
  • Analytical skills such as quantitative analysis, root cause analysis, and pattern recognition
  • Experience with data storytelling via reports, presentations, and campus partnership communication

CTL is seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of New Mexico's peoples and demographics and how data should be used both safely and ethically. They will be a team player with a customer service focus who can adapt to needs as they arise; they will possess refined interpersonal awareness and organizational skills; and they will need to understand and demonstrate alignment with Center for Teaching and Learning Values.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position that works onsite at the UNM Main (Albuquerque) Campus. Currently this position enjoys a flexible schedule that allows for remote work, but the successful applicant will need to reside in New Mexico by the beginning of their employment. After the first 30 days of employment, the new employee may be eligible for a hybrid remote work (telecommuting) arrangement under the discretion of their supervisor, business needs, and successful completion of training.

Presentation (8-10 minutes)

Prepare an 8-10-minute presentation in which you tell us a story using a data set of your choice. Within the presentation, we would like to understand your problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. Be sure to include:

  1. An overview of the data being used
  2. Questions being addressed
  3. Overview and justification of analytical approach
    1. Be sure to demonstrate your capacity with statistical analysis.
  4. Conclusions
  5. Future directions

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
