Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public.
Position Summary
The Sheps Center for Health Services Research is looking for a Research Assistant for a temporary position. The hiring period would be 3 months. Primary responsibility would be to prepare a series of policy briefs designed for the public and stakeholders. Briefs would be primarily extracted from large, formal evaluation reports submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regarding the NC Medicaid Transformation. The position would be up to full-time. Ideal candidates are strong writers interested and experienced in Medicaid policy and policy analysis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex information into accessible language.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare and present evaluation results with a focus on actionable insights and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong writing and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Work experience in public health, public policy, or a related field of study.
  • Interest in or experience within the Medicaid space.
  • Experience in producing clear, engaging materials including briefs, reports, and flyers for diverse audiences.
