Job Description

The University of Missouri School of Law invites applications for a Director of Academic Success and Bar Exam Success Programs. The position is a full-time, twelve-month position. Our Director of Academic Success and Bar Exam Success Programs will assist our students from the beginning of law school through graduation and bar exam passage. The individual will be responsible for coordinating academic success programs available to all students; teaching an academic success course for students on academic probation and providing other targeted support to students most in need of help; overseeing and evaluating student employees in the academic success program; and coordinating our bar exam support programs, both during the academic year and in the summer.

The director will be expected to collect and analyze data related to student success and bar passage and to craft programs to proactively address the challenges that students may encounter.

The director is expected to work with students within the law school community to provide counseling and support, both individually and through expansion of the law school's existing academic success program, to ensure students' successful completion of law school and passage of the bar.

The director will be expected to work with other academic success programs as well as disability services on the University of Missouri campus and outside the university community. The director will be required to prepare an annual report on all activities and accomplishments and serve on relevant committees within the law school and University of Missouri.

Key Responsibilities:
* Teaching foundational academic skills and legal analysis
* Counseling students regarding their academic performance
* Providing writing support for students
* Administering a Bar Success Program, with appropriate adaptations over time to changes in bar exam content and format
* Coordinating a student success study group known as the Dean's Fellows by creating a schedule for sessions, hiring high-performing students to teach study sessions, overseeing lesson creation for the sessions, and approving timesheets for the fellows
* Collaborating with faculty and staff colleagues to enhance the academic success of students

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

* Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and ability to work well with various constituencies
* Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
* Outstanding academic records
* Relevant professional experience
* Strong conceptual understanding of legal pedagogy and the learning sciences
* Proficiency in data collection and analysis
* Capacity to make outstanding contributions in the areas of teaching and service
* Prior experience in bar exam support or related work

Shift

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility with supervisor approval

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* Juris Doctor (JD) and/or advanced degree in education, psychology, counseling or a related field or expected date of degree completion by July 1, 2025
* Experience in student programming, academic support, or bar exam success
* Record of conference presentations and/or publications in the field of academic support or bar exam success

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000 yearly

Grade: GGS-011
